Ecozone Products – Ditch The Bleach

All The Better To Clean Green – Go Green, Ditch The Bleach

Ever thought that cleaning could prove to be worse than not cleaning? Well, in some ways that could be true (depending on the products you use). Recent and ongoing studies might prove there could very well be a link between the good old and much-loved household bleach and other chemical disinfectants causing chronic lung diseases. Studies are showing that using chemicals such as bleach could actually increase chances of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) by nearly a third when used as much as once weekly.

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear from some of the ‘not too sure about eco-products’ crowd is; “The only thing that works is bleach. Surely these natural products don’t disinfect properly?”. A lot of people generally seem to have an attachment to bleach for cleaning purposes. Now, there very may well be a need for bleach at some point to clean something (we’d prefer not to). But, for everyday use? We’ve got around 100 Laundry, Cleaning & Solution products to show you otherwise!

At Ecozone we like to take a moment to really get people thinking about how much chemicals affect us:

Firstly, the mentality of not thinking about what happens after you use products is a place to start; You pick up a cleaning product from the shelf at a local store. Bring it home… clean. It does the job. But, wait… you flush the residues/solution down the plug hole… Where does that go? Household water waste is usually recycled, filtered and comes straight back to us at home. We’d be on cloud 9 to think it’s been totally purified.

Secondly, we see the chemical solution as a clear pure liquid in a bottle that smells “clean”, and once you’ve put on your rubber gloves and squeezed it out to clean the affected area it feels as if it’s not done you any harm, but rather some good. You’ve taken the precaution to not get it on your hands, but did you ever think about what you inhale as you clean your toilet let’s say? Most of us wouldn’t think to put on a face mask for that chore.

These are just a few examples of how chemicals can so easily come it to contact with us internally and externally on a daily basis while doing simple tasks such as cleaning or drinking water from our taps at home. Bleach is cheap and appears to be versatile and cost-effective to many. But did we ever think we could be paying the price with your health by using it?
