It’s World Vegetarian Day

Every year on October 1st, we celebrate World Vegetarian Day to kick off an entire month of celebrations of the vegetarian lifestyle. The official World Vegetarian Day organisation says that this celebration is a great way to encourage meat-eaters to try out a veggie diet, and for those already eating a vegetarian diet to celebrate their choices!

At Ecozone however, we believe that being vegetarian (or vegan) is all about the lifestyle, not just the diet!

5 celebrities who embrace the veggie lifestyle

A lot of celebrities openly choose a vegetarian or vegan diet. Orlando Bloom once confessed that while he might have a cheeky steak every once in a while, he keeps a 90% plant-based diet thanks to his love for animals. For many celebs, their vegetarian and vegan beliefs extend beyond diet; like us, they know that being a herbivore is about more than just what we eat.

Billie Eilish

The American singer grew up on a vegetarian diet, and even became vegan at age 12. Speaking to British Vogue, she cited modern production of meat and animal products as her reason for a vegan diet. “I learned about the dairy industry and the meat industry, which I already knew about. Once you know that kind of thing and you see it, it’s really hard to go back…” she said

Elliot Page

A long-time vegan, Elliot Page has cited the mistreatment of animals for his vegan lifestyle, and he was even named World’s Sexiest Vegan by PETA in 2014! He’s been living a vegan lifestyle since 2011, tweeting back in 2014: “Why are vegans made fun of while the inhumane factory farming process regards animals and the natural world merely as commodities to be exploited for profit?”

Lizzo

Singer Lizzo followed a vegetarian diet before adopting a vegan diet last year, saying she enjoys the flavours of plants and plant-based proteins. She’s even been sharing some of her favourite vegan recipes on her TikTok to try out for yourself

Tobey Maguire

The Spiderman star was vegetarian since 1992, and vegan since 2009. His vegetarianism has extended beyond diet, and he returned a hire car once because of the leather seats in favour of a more cruelty-free option

Alicia Silverstone

The Clueless actress has been vegan since 1998, and famously posed nude as part of PETA’s campaign that she would “rather go naked than wear wool”, with a vegan lifestyle that extends beyond her diet.

Why choose vegetarian and vegan cleaning?

Vegetarian and vegan lifestyles should extend beyond the contents of your fridge. Putting consideration into the products you buy and the ingredients they contain is just as important as the ingredients in your food. Unfortunately, animal-derived ingredients in common household cleaning products are more common than we think. These might include…

  • Caprylic acid (from milk)
  • Tallow (rendered animal fat)
  • Animal glycerol and steric acid
  • Animal lecithin (waxy nervous tissue)
  • Oleyl alcohols (from fish)

You can read more about all these ingredients here!

Switch animal ingredients for vegan Ecozone products!

You may have noticed our products are certified by The Vegan Trademark. We focus on using ingredients that are natural and plant-based, never use harsh chemicals. We also avoid ingredients that have either been tested on animals, or made from animal by products.
